Standard 1: Thinks Critically and Analyses Nursing practice Registered Nurses use different strategies to effectively make decision in the healthcare setting, while using the best available evidence to help guide them in their decisions. 1.1.) Assessment 2 in HLTH101 required students to analysis the evidence of the link between childhood vaccinations and autism. In my response I was able to Identify and discuss the original piece of research that linked vaccinations to autism, critically analyse the information I read, identify any rebuttal research. This allowed me to present a response using the best available evidence ensuring safe quality practice. 1.2.) Through my clinical placement assessment I was able to show that I am capable of performing various nursing skills under the guidance of a registered nurse. My skills were assessed by a clinical facilitator or registered nurse and we were able to look at my skills at the start of the placement and throughout my placement I had the chance to reflect on my new experiences and knowledge that I obtained to then improve my nursing skills. evidence of this can be found in my clinical placement booklet.
Standard 2: Engages in therapeutic and professional relationships While practicing as a registered nurse it is important that you engage in therapeutic and professional relationships. This includes mutual respect and trust in professional relationships. 2.2) While studying the unit ORRA200 I was taught to respect patients different cultures and beliefs in the healthcare setting. This is shown through assessment 2 where I had to reflect on my learning on the first five weeks of the unit. The assessment made students reflect on the unit contents which focused on working with aboriginal people. This allowed me to have a greater understanding and respect for patients with different cultures and beliefs.
Standard 3: Maintains the capability for practice Registered nurses are required to maintain their own self-management as well as be aware of other health professionals capability of practice. registered nurses are are responsible for their professional development and contribute to the development of others. They are also responsible for providing information and education to enable people to make decisions and take action in relation to their health.
Standard 4: Comprehensively conducts assessment RNs accurately conduct comprehensive and systematic assessments. They analyse information and data and communicate outcomes as the basis for practice.
Standard 5: Develops a plan for nursing practice RNs are responsible for the planning and communication of nursing practice. Agreed plans are developed in partnership. They are based on the RNs appraisal of comprehensive, relevant information, and evidence that is documented and communicated.
Standard 6: provides safe, appropriate and responsive quality nursing practice RNs provide and may delegate, quality and ethical goal-directed actions. These are based on comprehensive and systematic assessment, and the best available evidence to achieve planned and agreed outcomes.
Standard 7: Evaluates outcomes to inform nursing practice RNs take responsibility for the evaluation of practice based on agreed priorities, goals, plans and outcomes and revises practice accordingly.
